Hello Norman, >I've installed a UT black ink cartridge and I have two problems. The >first is definite horizontal banding that I didn't get with the Epson >cart. The second, and disappointing, is that I don't see a particle >of difference between the pretty good black I had before with Epson >and what I get now. (I wouldn't be mentioning this except that I've >had my eyes opened by one of Clayton Jones's rich prints.) I'm set >up for BO. Any and all advice gratefully received. If you aren't getting good blacks it may be because the areas in the image that look black on screen may not actually pure black. For details on this please see the first section in the FAQ article #7 at the link below. As for the banding, assuming good nozzle checks, and if the banding is worse at certain densities, it's probably dither banding that can be improved with a head alignment. It varies among different printers, even of the same model. Sometimes what would be the optimum number according to the head alignment directions is not the best for BO, so try several numbers to see which one gives the best results (my 2200 was best at #2). Also try High Speed Off and On. On some printers High Speed is better (my 2200 was that way). Regards, Clayton Info on black and white digital printing at http://www.cjcom.net/digiprnarts.htm
