It may just be easier to include a slide/image that directs them to adjust
the screen to best show a selected grayscale image BEFORE your presentation
begins. You could do this while you make sure that the image is properly
showing on the screen, wide screen, 640x480, what ever you are doing to set
up your viewing area. If you are not at least doing that perhaps you need to
re examine that intent of the show.ie down and dirty, upscale? Etc.

In addition to changing to RGB, you may also want to change the pixel type,
or turn the images into an AVI.
