Digital BW, The Print

The latest:

Since I hadn't heard back from MIS tech support for a couple of days,
I decided to try printing again from the older of my two
non-functioning color carts with UT2 inks. This cart had been left in
the printer when I gave up a few days ago.

After a few passes of the printhead, it began printing the purge
pattern perfectly! I notified Mis tech support of this and got the
following reply.

"Are you using the cartridges clamp to hold the cartridges in the
carriage of the printer? If so note the location of the breather vent
on top of the cartridge. I would not suggest unlocking the cartridges
if they are working, but the next occurrance you have to remove the
color cartridge, observe the location on the bottom of the clamp that
applies pressure to the top of the cartridges to hold it in place. On
only about three cases I have heard that the clamp actually covers
some of the breather vent on the top of the cartridge preventing air
from entering the cartridge when the print is trying to pull ink. 
 
You can easily remedy this by a number of techniques. One be certain
there is no remaining tape covering the breather vent from when you
first peeled it off prior to its first use. Two, open the breather
vent vain that runs across the top of the cartridge, just a bit
further then from the holes that are exposed when the tape is first
removed. Three, add a small riser perhaps of tape so the clamp begin
to apply pressure sooner to the cartridge in another area, that being
the location where you have added a small amount of tape.
 
Hope this continues to work for you. Of the thousands of these
cartridges we have sold you are only about the 2nd or 3rd person I
have had to suggest this to.

Given all the trouble I've had with the MIS spongeless carts, I'm not
about to remove a working cart from the printer. When I do need to
remove it, I'll try one of the remedies MIS suggests and let the board
know what happens.
