Re: [Digital BW] Epson 1280/purging inks

2006-06-29 by Edward Wiseman

No, sorry..but the R1800 is NOT ready for PRIME TIME B&W (GREAT for
color though!)..The R2400 is READY!!!.. (@ $750++ Inks etc!!!...)..
The 1280 is also "NG" for B&W as it (and the R1800) will give you "color
casts" in your B&W images..The 1280 with 3rd party inks such as the UT-2's
from MIS WILL give you variable tone results from "sepia" to "cold", or
anything in between via curves from Paul Roark (FREE!) which you can
download from the mIS site, or by using QTR (quad tone rip) from Roy
Harrington(@ $50.00 and worth MANY times that..In addition, with use of the
proper papers, these MIS inks are considered by most to be archival..

..So IMHO, you can either set up a 1280 with 3rd party B&W inks, or get
yourself a R2400, and be able to do both archival Color or B&W (at a
COST$$!!!)....

1800 was touted for its B & W , is the 1280  better?
