Interesting new papers

2001-08-15 by sdmey4@aol.com

Had a chance to run a couple prints through my 7000 On Bright Cube Eclipse
Velvet.MIS standard hextones! This is a smooth bright white 350gsm sheet.
Printable on both sides although one side is slightly smoother than the
other. I think its HOT. Very nice tone and on the warm side(sorry Jerry) A
little warmer than EAM. A nice thick photo detail sheet probably only sutable
for the 7000. Its not like Osprey or Extreme Gamut Satine, or Summerset
Enhanced. Brighter with a harder surface. Very close to a matt Silver print.
A thinner version is avaible called Satine. I dont think these are rebranded
extreme Gamut papers! Anybody know? Its about A dollar per 8.5x11 on the
thick Ecipse Velvet! So not real expensive. Varible tones would take care of
the warm.
The rep said this thick paper does fine in rolls as it has no "memory"
meaning it will lie flat after living on a roll all its life.
Here is a descriptor from the site, http://www.photoinkjet.com
"Eclipse Velvet is a 100% cotton fiber, white, acid free, lignen free, double
sided watercolor paper with multi receiving layers. It has a soft vellum
finish with an Instant dry emulsion coating on both sides of the sheet . It
is highly water resistant. Eclipse Velvet is available in 350gsm "

Another interesting 7000 paper in the New Epson fine Art smooth" availible in
24x36in sheets comming in at 425gsm!. This stuff will stand up against a
wall! Prints colder to my piezo glazed eyes but warms up nicely after a day
or two and is about 10.00 per sheet.
For once I bought samples before jumping in all the way(out of character for
me) But I'am very impressed with the Eclipse Velvet. Guess I'll window test
it at some point, but it has all the right words in the descriptor! :)
