One potential issue I have thought about is noise during long
exposures. Since many of my pictures are landscapes which needs to be
sharp from near to infinity I usually have to stop down quite much,
which results in long exposure times from 8 s to 1/4 s. Have you, or
other users on the list, experienced problems with excess noise during
such long exposure times?

In your case, one thing you may have to consider is that the optimum aperture for digital cameras is usually between f11 and f16, and stopping down further can cause loss of sharpness through diffraction.
