>>Does anyone have any opinions of the Microtek I900 (3200 dpi) vs the newer Epsons like the 4990 Pro ( 6400 dpi)? << The MicrotekR i900 is a really well constructed scanner that is built like a tank although at this point I think the newer Epsons have the edge. A V700 can be bought for less, scans faster and has higher resolution. Additionally, its version of ICE works with film while the i900's ICE only works with reflective materials. The latter is a big point in favor of the Epson in my opinion. If he really wants a MicrotekR, there are more recent models like the i800 that might be a better choice in terms of speed, features and price. I have not seen any quality reviews or many users' comments on the i800, so it is a bit of an unknown.
