Digital BW, The Print

I have an Epson R220 with standard inks with Olmec 260gsm Gloss Paper.

When I print in colour the results are fine, but with BO the results
are teribly light in density.

The file is 16 bit greyscale

When printing from PS the file has its corrct icc paper profile

The media type selected in the print dialog is Epson ultra glossy and
under colour management the print dialog Color Controls option (dont
know why the Color Controls turns it self on when printing greyscale)
is currenty set to gamma 2.2 (gives the darkest output)

I would welcome some advice on where to go next
