Greetings, all. I'm new to this group because I'm seeking improvements in the B&W performance of my Epson 4000 (currently using OEM Ultrachrome inks). My first baby step will be trying BO with MIS Eboni (thanks to Clayton Jones for promulgating this technique). Several questions come immediately to mind: 1. Unlike some of you, I'm still interested in occasional color printing, so the various MIS UT inksets are probably not in my future (yet :-). While I'm waiting for my Eboni order to arrive, I'm wondering whether I'll need to reprofile my usual papers with the combination of Eboni and remaining UC inks. I assume it's a given that reprofiling would be necessary if I took a bigger step and switched entirely to MIS K4 inks? 2. I'm reasonably familiar with color-managed workflows, ICC profiles, soft proofing, etc. However, BO printing seems not to involve these mechanisms at all. Nevertheless, WYSIWYG (monitor to print) saves ink and paper, so I'm looking for a good starting point. Do you concur with CS2 working space of Dot Gain 20% and Epson driver settings of gamma=1.8 and brightness/contrast=0? 3. Will I need to build a unique adjustment curve within CS2 for each paper type with BO printing in order to regain my current capability of color management (WYSIWYG)? If it matters, I've been using Epson Enhanced Matte and Velvet Fine Art plus Moab Kayenta. If these curves are necessary, must I do them by eye, printing proof after proof and comparing with my monitor, or is there some (semi)automated way to do them quickly and accurately? These are undoubtedly naive questions in the extreme for this forum, so I'd apprecate pointers to FAQs, tutorials, guides, or other online material if that's the quickest way to come up to speed. Thanks in advance for your patience and support. Michael Miller Atlanta, Georgia (MiloGiacomoRambaldi47 on Yahoo)
