Hello Karissa, >So, I'm wondering what would be the best route (or routes) for B&W >work. Would I be better off (both from the standpoint of print >quality and workflow simplification) converting the 2200 to a >dedicated B&W device (and, if so, using what inks and >papers...realizing that it's partly a subjective decision) or should >I use the R2400 for both color and monochrome work (again, input as >to media would be appreciated) and finding the 2200 a new home? The 2200 can be a very good dedicated BW machine, using either MIS UT7 inks or Piezo inks. Regardless of ink choice, a RIP will be required to control the inks. As for the 2400, it can make very fine BW prints right out of the box using the ABW mode. A very simple and effective workflow for this is outlined in article #9 at the link below. Beyond that, many people are using a RIP to control the inks differently (such as eliminating Yellow), and some are replacing the K3 inks with other things, such as MIS color replacements or dedicated BW inks of various combinations. As you can see there is no simple answer. I would recommend trying the simple workflow in article #9 to get started. There is nothing else to buy so there is no risk or committment. It takes time to absorb all the possibilities that are discussed here, and in the meantime this will give you some experience and a frame of reference as you explore other avenues. Good luck with it. The 2400 is a great machine. Regards, Clayton Info on black and white digital printing at http://www.cjcom.net/digiprnarts.htm
