The stiffer/thicker papers can be a problem to feed. So, it might be a good idea to start with the thinner paper stock. Since this is an 8 1/2 printer the thinner papers are fine for most applications anyway.
As far as the surfaces, any of the more or less usual surfaces will be no problem. You should enjoy printing with this setup.
