Hello Roaccuk, >I am considering purchasing either one of these two printers. >Basically I want the same quality as i am getting with my 1290 with >UT2 MIS inks but want to be able to produce prints 20" x 16" thus i >need an upgrade. > >The 4000 seems cheaper if you can find one by around £400 which i >would prefer, but is the 4800 that much better? > >Like i said i only need it for black and white and would convert it >instantly to MIS UT2 inks if i choose either one. I think the equivalent of UT2 for the 4000 would be UT7, perhaps someone else can verify that. Since you plan on using those inks there is probably no advantage to a 4800. It's ABW system and K3 inks produce very fine BW prints, but they would have a very different look and feel than what you're getting now. You would likely have to make major adjustments in your workflow to adapt to it, it's such a different approach (using color inks). However, it's also possible you might like that look and want to change, so it might be good to look at some K3 prints before deciding. The K3 printers are very popular. I was forced into a 2400 when my 2200 died (my only option with a trade up warranty), and now am very glad it happened.
