solution found: can now print postcard stock on R220 - keeping fingers crossed

2006-09-08 by paulmwhiting

Thanks to a member here who e-mailed me a suggestion to join the Epson
Printer group and get help from Arthur Entlich. He most definitely
helped. Apparently Avery postcard stock leaves some of its coating on
the rollers. The rollers get glazed, making it harder to grab the next
sheet, and a vicious circle begins. He suggested spraying some
isopropryl alcohol on a sheet of watercolor paper and running that
through (one side up, then the other). Haven't tried that yet, but
plan to go over to the art store and pick some of that paper up soon.

Arthur was a tremendous help, told me I hadn't really damaged the
paper sensor (since other paper was ok). I also broke open my package
of Epson Enhanced Matte which seemed as thick as postcard stock and
that also worked... probably doesn't have that coating. Arthur
suggested I write Avery, that he's seen this issue before and they
need to have some customer feedback.

In the meantime I called Epson again and the tech suggested
downloading a more up to date driver and this seems to have done the
trick!

I told Arthur I'd let folks here know how it all turned out. So,
keeping fingers crossed. Between his excellent maintenance tip and the
new driver, I think I'm out of the woods.
