>... regarding ... Crane Silver Rag, Hahn. Pearl and >Innova Fiber papers. I have not seen any comments regarding >any outgassing, ... I asked the Crane representative whether Silver Rag was a barrier paper (which stops the glycols from reaching the cellulose that holds them) and also directly whether there was an out-gassing problem. His answer: "As far as your question about if Silver Rag is a barrier paper, the answer is "sort of". It is not a barrier paper such as an RC paper with its layer of polyethylene, however, we do apply a coating that keeps the ink receptive coating from sinking into the base paper. ... It's probably best to let it dry for some time before putting it behind glass to be safe." I received the same sort of response from Permajet regarding it's version of the Innova paper. So, while I have not actually experienced the out-gassing problem, it sounds like we're looking at a type of barrier paper that will need to be dried thoroughly before putting it behind glass. Plain paper (cellulose) acts like a sponge for these problematic glycols. So, having the print pressed under plain paper over night is supposed to be a good way to be sure the slow-to-evaporate glycols are removed and do not fog the glass. Paul www.PaulRoark.com
