A quick look at the one week tone stability of what I'm calling the "4K+" approach on my 7500 indicates the tones are very stable. I overlaid graphs of Lab A & B, matching the paper white and 100% black values to remove some spectro variances, and the graphs were almost identical, particularly in the highlights and midtones where a hue or tone change would be visually detected. This is far better than any blended inkset I've used in a large format printer. The current ink setup in my 7500 includes the 4 standard carbon inks: MK (Eboni), PK (MIS), LK (MIS), LLK (MIS). The additional color inks to give full tone control within the carbon to neutral range are as follows: LM (Epson UC) & LC* (MIS; this is a special 50% LC for the old 7500). A rip is required; I'm now using IJC. This concept will probably work well on other 6 and 7 ink printers. On desktop units a variant of this setup appears to have the best chance at full color management with profiling software.
