Tom, I had the same problem with MIS carts, so I took a pair of wire nippers and clipped off the very tip of the part of the cartridge that clicks in place in the printer. That will let you close the printer cartridge cover and also stop the blinking lights on the printer. To move the carriage, press the second from the top button. That'll move the carriage to the center of the open area on the right so you can take out the carts to clip them and put them back in. Make sure you hear them click into place.
