Re: [Digital BW] Epson 2200 Piezography K7

2006-11-19 by Diane Fields

To follow up on Ryan's post---sort of.
I, too, have a 3800 ordered. I've been printing with a 2200 since it came
out (after a number of years with a 1280) and have used QTR for mono
printing for a good while. Metamerism has been the major reason for using
QTR, so, for those that have K3 printers, my question--is it now possible to
print a mono (or even split toned) image as an ARGB image instead of going
into ABW to defeat metamerism (assume a custom paper profile)? I
procrastinated for enough years about not making my 1280 a dedicated b/w
printer---and now--am I faced with making the 2200 that dedicated printer?
If so--I'm sort of defeating one of the reasons I'm buying the 3800--to
print using larger media at times. I might add that 'neutral' prints are
not my goal--I always prefer toned to some degree.

I have to say the ongoing discussion about the recent print comparison has
prompted this line of thinking.

Thanks--and sorry Ryan for highjacking this a bit--but we are both
interested in the same thing---excellent mono prints. I'm looking forward
to the answers you get about inksets papers, etc.---though I know this has
been covered quite a bit before here---but searching sometimes on the Yahoo
page can be frustrating.

Subject: [Digital BW] Epson 2200 Piezography K7

I'm waiting for the shipment of my new printer and I'm considering
making my Epson 2200 a full time black & white printer using the
Piezography inks.

I was hoping to get some feedback as to the opinions of this
combination and any suggestions for alternatives, papers, or anything
else I should know about the set up.

Is the K7 set the way to go?
Is there another alternative by Piezography or another manufacturer?
Are users printing on matte rag or other papers more often?
Any other thoughts?
