There are a couple more contacts on the chip, and wires that go into the
cart.  It looks like they are measuring resistance to get a better measure
of the ink level.  My guess is that they have built a patent forest to try
to stop the third party ink business.  The 220s disappearing are probably
part of this effort.  That is the printer Epson is losing the most on to the
third party ink people from what I can tell.
