I've seen some posts on the R260, but I haven't seen any B&W ink sets available for this yet. The R260 seems to have better color prints and is the same price now as the 220 with rebates. Is anyone using it for B&W or do we know if b&w ink sets are on the way?

The 260 carts are going to be a challenge for the third party vendors to clone. So far, I don't think there are any. Paul www.PaulRoark.com <http://www.paulroark.com/> _____

MIS is not showing any carts for the 260. Without those we don't have anything to put the b&w inks in we're stuck. My 220 just quit, under warranty. The Epson rep I talked to said the new 220 would be sent to me in 5 days. Two days later a brand new 260 showed up on my door step. But, I've got a load of 220 carts, etc. So, I called back to complain about the upgrade. The woman I talked to understood. The 220 is no longer available from Epson. So, she said they could send me a 340, which is the 220 with other bells and whistles. It is the same heads, print engine, etc. So, I should be able to continue just as with the 220.
I sure would like to have been able to give the 260 a try, though.

Hi; I just tried the 'Grayscale' printing on mine, and sure enough it is not BO. The carts are different- they are different a shape and have two more contacts than previous Epson carts, which means cloning not only the carts, but the chips, AND coming up with a new chip resetter. Which is too bad, because this one looks like it would (with QTR) do excellent BO, or anything else we do. --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "cjpaschke" <cjpaschke@...> wrote: > > I've seen some posts on the R260, but I haven't seen any B&W ink sets > available for this yet. Greg, >> The 260 carts are going to be a challenge for the third party vendors to >> clone. So far, I don't think there are any. >Is there something significantly different about them? There are a couple more contacts on the chip, and wires that go into the cart. It looks like they are measuring resistance to get a better measure of the ink level. My guess is that they have built a patent forest to try to stop the third party ink business. The 220s disappearing are probably part of this effort. That is the printer Epson is losing the most on to the third party ink people from what I can tell. Paul www.PaulRoark.com

You can be sure that the Chinese companies that make the third party carts are way ahead of all of us. Do the second set of carts have all the same contacts too? I'll ask even though I know the answer from previous times... Anybody have any empties they don't want?

I'm sure Epson lost money on this series, but if ink sales was the problem, Epson has only itself to blame. A combination of aggressive promotions, ebay, and initial design flaws conspired to glut the market with cheap OEM cartridges that happened to be packaged with free printers that people didn't want. The result had to be very low demand for standalone replacement carts, period, regardless of who made them.
