Mark,

There's something more on this subject in the Field Service 
guide at page 40 but no real answer on your request.

Funny those warnings in the SM and FS that no customer should 
ever get the knowledge that you can switch between dye and 
pigment. Shows how committed they are to the customer of what 
once was a 13K machine.

What you could try with the NPC settings is some undocumented 
number 4-9 if the printer display allows that. Some developers 
setting they forgot to take out. There are also other settings 
for Japanese etc carts mentioned at other pages in the SM manual.
