Whether you apply them in the ink with a fixed inkset, or apply them from tinting carts in a variable inkset, or straight to the paper from seperate full color carts in a color inkset, they are still color pigments. Neutral-only inksets (or carbon-only) are the only ones that avoid this, and by avoiding it, they are limited pretty much to a single tone, and whatever tint that tone produces on a given paper. C.
