John, I'm using Epson premium glossy Photo paper for the head alignments. I burned through the Luster paper supplied with the printer already. Just so you all know I'm not completely nutty, I'm including an excerpt from an Epson technician reply I recieved today regarding nozzle checks on the 3800. As for the prints I'm getting off the printer, when everything is working correctly, I'm very happy with the results of my b/w prints using the ABW settings with minimal tweaking. Thanks again for listening and for your input.... FROM EPSON TECH SUPPORT: ============ We have noticed during this initial release that some users are experiencing above average nozzle drop out due to a glitch in the Printer Watcher program. This glitch is causing the print head to move from the home position at timed intervals we believe this motion is exposing the printhead to air thus drying the nozzles. Please observe your printer while it's idle to determine if the problems you are experiencing might be because of this glitch. If so the solution for now is to disable the Printer Watcher until our engineers have a chance to correct the software and release an updated version. To disable the Printer Watcher right- click on the icon in your system tray and select "settings," choose the option "do not open application when computer starts" then select "exit." ================================================================== ~ian --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "John Moody" <moodymz3@...> wrote: > > CD, It must be too late in the evening.
