Epson R2400 Hardware failure: The bad and the good

2007-01-28 by Keith Zimmerman

I bought a new R2400 last June and excitedly made a few prints and was
thoroughly disappointed in what I saw. This was done without reading
anything and using default settings. At the time, I meant to pursue
things thoroughly. Well, I had to go out of town and shut down my
entire system.

Fast forward to last weekend: Because of other things, I did not get
back to my printer and it sat powered off for the past seven months.
I powered it up, and after a couple of nozzle cleanings, had a good
check. I started testing different matte papers with the K3 inkset
with MK (I did read that).

Now the bad: After making 40-50 test prints on different
quarter-sized papers, the printer failed to load the paper.
Everything I tried failed. I even tried to do a nozzle check and it
failed to load. A run through the Troubleshooting Wizard resulted in
a recommendation to contact Epson technical Support.

Now the good: I contacted Epson Tech Support the next day, and after
working through some tests at their direction, they concluded I had a
hardware failure and, because it was still under warranty, said they
would replace the printer. I sent it out that night and am now
waiting for my new printer. I'm really looking forward to getting the
new printer and continuing my testing and eventually making great prints.

I highly commend Epson, not only for honoring the warranty, but for
their technician's knowledge. I am very pleased to have worked with
them to resolve this.

I am just a happy customer, not affiliated.
