David, while these preferred color temps are on the warm end, they do not appear to be a holdover as you suggest. The linked studies are very interesting in that they tested viewers in a carefully controlled environment (eyes preconditioned, luminosity kept constant, etc.). When you have a few minutes take a look at the studies, they're very interesting.
