Seth, Thanks for the reply. My monitor is profiled using monaco, and in my color images i get dead on matches, so i feel very confident that my monitor is showing me what is really there. and when i look at my images on the monitor, i definately see tonal separation at the specific 60-70% range. Add to that, the fact that when i print in "black only mode" i do get the tonal separation. so i have to think that the problem is in the way the icc profile is dealing with the other shades of gray in my inkset. otherwise it was a good suggestion....thanks for the idea.
