Myron, >The description of MIS's UT-3D inks says that on printers >such as the Epson 2200, both glossy and matte papers can >be printed without changing the pure-black cartridge. >The Eboni cartridge remains in the >black position (for use with matte papers), and glossy >surfaces are handled by inks from other cartridges. >Can anyone direct me to instructions as to how this is >done for glossy paper? See http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/UT-3D_Readme.pdf With the workflows that include Photoshop curves, either directly applied in PS or applied because they are embedded in ICC, the blue curve (yellow position ink) that controls the Lab A toner is shaped such that as the black point is approached, the y-position ink is turned off. That stops the driver from injecting the black ink. The driver looks at all three curves and only turns on the black ink when they all approach 100% on. You can see how this works if you pull up one of the glossy paper curves that are posted and look at the blue curve. >Straight profiling with ColorVision / Printfix Pro 2.0 is >fine for matte papers (it seems... although I'm struggling >with that, too), but it couldn't care less about Eboni >vs. PhotoBlack. What do I do (and where!) to turn off >the Eboni cartridge and manipulate the >others into giving me a deep black? (C. David Tobie is the expert who'll have to answer this question.)
