RE: [Digital BW] Paul's C88 profiles

2007-02-22 by Paul Roark

Hi Steve,

>A few question of C88 profiles I found on your website.

>CSR: What is MHW?

MHW = Matte Heavy Weight media type setting.

For the C88, the dmax of glossy papers is usually best if the higher MHW ink
limit is used, but then cut back via a curve or ICC. The paper settings in
the C88 driver are simply no optimized. So, I've used curves or ICCs (with
the curves embedded in them) to do this. See
http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/C88_EZ_Slider_settings.pdf

>CSR: What is N-1? From the zone system...

CSR = Crane Silver Rag in my ICC and curve names.

"N-1" just means it is the first neutral curve or ICC I've published. It
has no relationship to the Zone system. I'll sometimes have N-2 as an
alternative profile, where I've changed something, whether it's a slight
tone distribution difference or different batch of the paper.

>PA205: ?

Premier Art Fine Art Hot Press 205 is a good, affordable, non-OBA cotton
paper. (Note that while the sheets I've used have always printed well, the
rolls to not print well on my 7500. The paper is also not up to the state
of the art with respect to matte paper dmax. The PA 325 is great, but stiff
and does not feed in my C88. One poster indicated the 270 weight may have
the higher dmax and feed better, but I have not tried it.)

>Per your info I ordered the EZ_W for yellow and PKN along with

Good luck with the system.

By the way, I've moved my web pages to a new host. There are some glitches
in some links. Please let me know if you run into any of these.
