Now you can 1) make both - ink and paper and let the customer know that this combination works; change any of the inks or change the paper and all bets are off, 2) make paper for each set of inks - NOT going to happen 3) make everyone crazy by claiming that you have tested the archival quality of ALL of the possible out comes with appropriate environmental, and "museum" grade testing and let the buyer be . It possible that Epson has already tried to lock people in to a paper/ink combo with the Colorbyte IP in the early days and people bitched and moaned and now they (CB) offer a variety of inks and papers. It is a wide open market, but also exist in a very thin line. We don't really know what goes on behind the business deals. As an ink maker or marketing person, How many papers can you reasonably test for color gamut, and archival quality? May be it is a good thing we here in the US don't have a good quality Health care system. We all know that we won't be around to see if the predictions hold out for the inks and papers we sold as "lasts at least blah blah blah years". I have set up my 4800 with PK for a short period of time, and if I run across more Harmon FB paper I'll run one print just to see, but it is my understanding that one should ONLY use MK inks. Eric, You bring up a very important point. Not all inksets stick to papers the same. Just like not all matte black inks have the same dmax on a certain paper. The ink paper relationship may be a complex one at best, and with HP and Canon making pigment printers, which inkset do you market for? It used to be simple, make the paper work with the Epson pigments and you will capture the largest crowd. Now....? [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
