Using Lyson SG inks with QTR in Epson 1290

2007-03-30 by alan9990_6

Hi all,

I've had a quick look at some of the existing posts (some of which are
a few years old now) regarding Lyson SG inks and can accept that they
may have been exceeded in performance by current ink technology, but I
currently have the Small Gamut inks in one of my Epson 1290 printers
and am determined to get the most out of them using QTR before
deciding whether the results are worth continuing or investing in new
ink/printer.

The problem I'm having at the moment is working out how to use the ink
separation data to apply to a new curve set in QTR. The software has
been designed around quad black ink sets. I don't believe that means
I can't use it - but being new to RIP, I'm finding it a lot to take in.

So could anyone please tell me: Once I've read the output from the ink
separation print, and set a preliminary ink limit, how to I apply the
data derived from measuring the remaining channels - namely C, M, Y,
LC, LM? - be it with a scanner or spectrometer.

Once I understand how the channel data is applied in the curve
creation, I will be able to muck about with curves, linearise the
output etc but currently I'm having a hard time understanding the
documentation

Thanks
