Wrap Up: Switching black inks - Epson 4800

2007-04-02 by mdabrosca

Thanks for all the input, gang.

While waiting and reading all this info, that Glossy Black cartridge went dry. Perfect timing!

I had completely forgotten about the Conversion Kit (which comes with the printer). Yes, it
seems to block the draining of the right-side ink cartridges, but whatever amount is drained,
Epson's web site says 80-117 ml in ink is used in the process. At about $85 per 220ml cart
at atlex.com this comes to about $40 per ink change. Not bad really.

The whole chip/swap thing was too intense for me. And now I realize that swapping a matte
cart in place of the empty gloss cart was just wishful thinking on my part.

This is only my second ink swap since buying the 4800 about 18 months ago and I've been
judicious with my printin; the time was right to switch black ink types.

So the deed is done, and again I thank you all for the discussion. However, I must say that I
am contemplating that new 3800!
