It is the later reason, switching from Nikon LS-5000 to an Epson flatbed, that keeps me using Vuescan. At the time, I didn't like Epson's software (I have an older scanner) and I never bothered opening Nikon's software. I was already using Vuescan with satisfactory results so I didn't see any reason to change. But if you're getting good results with PS twain for Nikon 4000 ... there's no reason to change.
