I agree with you that there are a few issues to contend with. I use a Dell laptop right now but am considering getting a Mac next year. I believe that future versions will improve on many fronts but in the mean time I'm hoping that Lighroom and Aperture will compete against each other and that the result will benefit both applications and everyone. In my case I only had about 4 files setup that way so I managed to find them along with a few others that I had the compatibility mode turned off and managed to get them fixed. I did print the dialog so I didn't have to manually copy the file paths but they should give you more options to handle such situations. I also wish they had a better way of handling metadata across the various Adobe applications. You get extra features by using the database but when you export to sidecars you loose some of the hierarchy you can develop for things such as keywords. Maybe CD Toby has some suggestions for searching out such files. Thanks for the input. :o) Pierre -----Original Message----- From: DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com [mailto:DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Eric Neilsen Photo Sent: April 23, 2007 10:21 To: DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com Subject: RE: [Digital BW] Importing 8 bit duotone images into Lightroom w/ PSCS2 compatibility enabled Pierre, The folks at Adobe really pissed me off with their lack of compatibility with LR and their other image products. I suppose it can't be all things to all people but there are many aspects of LR image management that really stink. NON maximized PSD files will not import into LR either. I also ran across some 325mb Tif files that were report to be too large. I don't know of a search that you can do to identify Duotone, Tritone or Quadtone files. LR will tell you when a file will not be imported but will not allow you to copy or export that list so that you can trouble shoot the list. Sure you could manually write them down and if there were only a few that is work around but with thousands of image files and possibly hundreds that don't flow into LR, you are left with the task of some other tracking system. All Duotone, Tritone or Quadtone files need to be converted to RGB in PS. The conversion will keep the color properties that you assigned them and then can be read by RGB programs. This file in particular was process 2 years ago so I wasn't starting fresh from a raw file. As far as my use of the PS duotone mode, it was based on what little experience I had at the time. I usually keep everything in 16 bit throughout my workflow but in this case I noticed that I couldn't use the PS feature unless I when down to 8 bits and at the time I didn't know a better way to achieve this look. Please feel free to suggest some work around that would enable me to see thes few files I have under Lightroom. Thanks, Pierre
