why don't you test both scanners with Vuescan? This should reduce
variables...

I have both scanners already. I am finding a big difference between them but
it's just difference, one is not better or worse - yet.
The Epson's SilverFast SE does a good job with getting the exposure and
color very near correct. Preliminary tests indicate that the Epson 2450 only
does well at 1200 DPI. Interpolated (1200 to 2400) scans from either machine
look as good as Epson's 2400 DPI scans - not what I hoped for.
