Steve, it might have to do with paper weight and mechanical wear. Some have speculated that 2200 (2100) are damaged when heavy papers are fed through the top slot. I think I've experienced that with my 3 yr old 2200 ... it did accept without complaint for perhaps 25 sheets of 300gsm, but then stopped accepting.
