In my experience this happens when something jams the head and some kind of clutch mechanism in the printer is forced to disengage. Look for paper jams hidden inside or, if you are running a CFS look for the tubes hitting the drive belt or elsewhere - they will easily jam the head, if they touch any part of the machine. Frank
