RE: [Digital BW] Eboni_3 R1800 Paper Test Results

2007-06-19 by Paul Roark

I agree with the assessment of the Arches paper. Although I was able to get
1.6 out of a test strip, the last 5% is blotchy. I do not think it's an
appropriate paper for most people and most situations.

Subject: [Digital BW] Eboni_3 R1800 Paper Test Results

Update for Paul and other Epson R1800 users on my recent paper tests
using QTR, Eboni Black and Paul Roark's R1800 QTR profiles
.
Papers tested in order of personal preference and d_max (measured with
Printfix Pro 2.1):

1. Hahnemule Photo Rag (HPR) 188gsm A4 - D-max = 1.72
2. PremierArt Hot Press 205g (12mils) 8.5" x 11" - D-max = 1.64
3. Arches Hot Press Bright White 20" x 30" cut to A4 - D-max = 1.56

Notes:
HPR and PA are very similar in tone (off-white) and both print very
smooth, slightly warm prints. (I prefer warm vs cool)
Arches HP is a much warmer/yellower paper with a significantly weaker D-
max that I find unacceptable for my work.

Cheers
Jim
