Charlotte, if it were me I might use Moab Entrada Natural, a cream-colored paper (not whitened at all). It's a longtime favorite of many inkjet printer folk. I'm in the middle of "Indian Country" and am always eager to see portraits of the native people around me, Navajo especially. Are you Native American? Being white, I've been reluctant to do portraits of my native friends...maybe that's just my personal weakness.
