Does anyone have recommendations for good inkjet paper for portraits and why you suggest that paper? Is skin tone a factor in what paper you choose? The portaits I am working on are native Americans. Thank you, Charlotte

Charlotte, if it were me I might use Moab Entrada Natural, a cream-colored paper (not whitened at all). It's a longtime favorite of many inkjet printer folk. Moab papers are going through renaming and market-rethinking, but this is an important possible source and advisor: http://www.inkjetart.com/wc/entrada/index.html What are the circumstances of your portraits? I'm in the middle of "Indian Country" and am always eager to see portraits of the native people around me, Navajo especially. Are you Native American? Being white, I've been reluctant to do portraits of my native friends...maybe that's just my personal weakness. If you like Entrada Natural, you might want to check our our Merlin and Condor Natural papers, also 100% cotton, OBA free, coated both sides, available in sheets and rolls. Diana L. John, thanks for your reply. I've tried Entrada's bw but not the natural. I am white. The Native Americans are Navajo. They are paid models. I was raised in New Mexico and have always been attracted to Native American and southwestern culture. Living in Albuquerque you are probably aware that photography of American indians can be a sensitve issue. Past exploitation of Native Americans may play a role for some in their feelings about being photographed. I myself, do not like it if someone photographs me w/o my permission. Charlotte, There are some brand new papers on the market that show some real promise for your application. They were developed by Tony Martin from Lyson and are listed at http://www.adventurecamphoto.com/ink2image.htm. Oops ... Someone pointed out that the link I submitted earlier didn't work. It's because I accidentally added a period at the end of the URL. Sorry about that. Charlotte.. we share the concern about ripoff... Paying seems ideal. I suspect that even rez Dine' would respect that, if only due to frequent Missippi-1960-rural poverty. What sort of portrait are you making? Are your subjects urban or rez? --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "cieloblu22000" <cieloblu@...> wrote:

Richard and Mike, Thanks for the suggestions. I will check them out. I just tried a paper from Hawk Mountain called Peregrine Velvet. It is a slightly warm paper and worked quite beautifully. I checked it out on Clayton's paper recommendations. He recommended it for portraits and I must agree that for portraits it just glows. A very nice paper. I love the skin tones I'm getting on my Native Americans. Charlotte [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
