> Would the > > GretagMacbeth counterparte do any better for the extra 450 bucks? I have not used PrintFix, but I have used earlier Colorvision products going back a number of years, and was always pleased with the results. A few years ago Gretag had a special on ProfileMaker, and I went for it, thinking that a much more expensive product must be even better. I have not found this to be the case. My testimony is entirely anecdotal, and limited to color profile generation, so keep that in mind, and it is true that I am now getting good profiles with PM 5 (seems better than 4), but is PM worth the extra money? Not that I can see. Maybe it has more elaborate features for tasks like profiling presses etc- I don't know. It does seem to have lots of options. But just for generating profiles for home fine art printing, my guess would be that your extra $450 could be much better spent on ink or paper etc. I have a question re: generating profiles for a split tone ink set such as one of the new K6 Cone split tone sets. Does the aspect that the inks vary in color have any bearing? Or are the profiles based on density only, and therefore unaffected? I have not yet generated any black and white profiles yet so I'm unfamiliar with the process, but I'm gearing up to do so, and thinking about a split set on a 9500.
