So if you profile a grayscale driver, you'll only get density, as the a*/b* components will be ignored, while profiling a color driver will allow you control of color tints as well as density. A 9500 will require a custom inkset to do good B&W printing. If you choose a profilable singletone or adjustable tone inkset, then you can profile it with PrintFIX PRO. That profile will then allow you to tell what is, and is not, in the gamut of that inkset, for the adjustable B&W sets, and preview the results at various tints and crosstints. For the single tone B&W inkset, a PFP profile will preview that tone, and allow you to adjust densities with a live preview of the results; but the tone will be fixed, and will vary a bit from paper to paper. For more info, download the PrintFIX PRO 2.1 UserGuide.pdf at colorvision.com, under Support >User Guides. The tutorials on B&W, as well as the screen by screen help, will tell you more about the process. C. David Tobie Product Technology Manager ColorVision Business Unit Datacolor Inc.
