Ethernet cards in the printers will likely be more workable than Firewire. Trying to network a firewire connected printer may be causing your issue. Try an Ethernet card in one of your printers. Airport is quite slow as a networking device, too, so passing files to the print server is limited to 11Mbs -- you might want to equip your workstations with ethernet cards too.
