The best way to get gelatin silver prints is in a wet darkroom. Lacking real appreciation for gelatin silver prints, one is probably better off with the better matte inkjet papers, which in my opinion can readily look better than gelatin silver. IMO. I loved Agfa Portriga Rapid and Fotorite (more silver than anything ever), and Dupont Varilour, but I make better prints on HPR. In print exchanges I've seen the allegedly most gelatin-silver-like (baryta etc) prints, the most expensive paper, and it's sad. The photographers are so dedicated to faking gelatin silver that they accept stuff that looks like it's been printed on old fashioned waxed paper.
