I'm using an R2400/ABW with QTRICC profile, measurements with PrintFIX Pro, and I'm seeing Dmax 2.37. I'm guessing the difference between 2.37 and 2.40 is perhaps in the noise - in other words, we're seeing precisely the same results. Did you tinker with ink settings on the 3800?
