Someone recommended this page for information on performing a (visual) linearity test:

There is a number of images for the purpose, but I found the radial gradient especially 
useful.  I had just installed Piezo K7 inks on the R2400 and, using this pattern, it was 
immediately apparent that residual inks from the cap station were contaminating the K7s.

Once I (very carefully) cleaned the pads with Windex (see the Inkjet Mall site for the method) I 
was able to observe the very smooth variation from black to white provided by the K7 inks.  
Very nice, indeed.
