7500 & Eboni-5

2007-10-31 by Paul Roark

I've been comparing different papers and profiles for the Eboni-5 inkset in
my old 7500. So far, Hawk Mountain Condor BW is winning for most shots.
With the standard QTR profile (made the easy way with QTR's semi-automatic
profiling) the approach is printing quite smoothly and neutral (Lab B range
from -2 at highlights to max +2 in light midtones). Frankly, I'm very
pleased. I've been using my recent Grand Canyon shot that is now on my home
page as a test image because is has a plain smooth sky with a full range of
densities. If the system had excess dots or roughness, this shot (medium
format Tech Pan original, with virtually no grain) would show it badly.
Happily, the shot even looks good at 8 x 10.

For the warm, southwestern types of shots with no plain sky, Permajet and
MIS Alpha are on top of my paper list.

So far so good.

Paul
