I have not used any of the other small desktop printers, so I can't compare with them. I can report that the Windows driver does not offer a 'Black Only' option, just a 'Greyscale' option which produces a mono print with a magenta cast. I did a 2400 spi flatbed scan of the print, and it showed lots of dots of colour ink -- see a little sample here: http://www.marquis-kyle.com.au/images/R290.jpg Peter Marquis-Kyle
