Experiences with New Epson R280/290

Experiences with New Epson R280/290

2007-10-31 by Drew Tait

I have seen the new Espon R280/R290 printer and I was wondering if
anyone had any experience with them yet? They are reportedly faster than
the R220/R230 which they replace and the OEM carts are high capacity and
not much dearer that the OEM R220 carts. Of course I would be
particularly interested if BO printing was possible...

I guess it is rather new. No problems. Back to finding a cheap R230!

Hi Drew

I bought an R290 for printing on CDs and DVDs, which I have just set up
and tested.

I have not used any of the other small desktop printers, so I can't
compare with them.

I can report that the Windows driver does not offer a 'Black Only'
option, just a 'Greyscale' option which produces a mono print with a
magenta cast. I did a 2400 spi flatbed scan of the print, and it showed
lots of dots of colour ink -- see a little sample here:

Peter,

Thank you very much -- that is a great help. It confirms to me that
although it is faster and has cheaper ink thatn the R220/r230 it won't
do what I want: Black only printing :(

Actually it will do BO printing if you use QTR instead of the Epson
driver.
