Alan, i wonder if the 2450 has fixed an earlier Epson scanner problem? the Epson 1640 has an inherent problem on larger format scans of a criss-cross and banding pattern showing up in light, even areas - skies, walls etc. especially from neg scans. this is caused by the scanner actually picking up the cross hatch pattern that makes up the cold cathode fluorescent flat tube in the lid. it's too close or not diffused enough in the 1640. you can see the pattern if you look closely at the illuminated area when it's on. in scans this pattern looks at first like banding in skies etc. but on closer inspection you can see the pattern of the tube. have you scanned larger negs? b&w or colour? noticed if this has occurred during your testing? (for a long time i thought it was the usual poor blue channel on a cheap scanner...) tim a
