Here's a nice irony. It appears the dilute Eboni approach I'm using in my 7500 might actually be better in the old printers than the new ones. Since the dilute Eboni works well so in the 7500, one might assume that it would be a good solution for more modern printers also. However, the dot size is an important factor in how cool carbon inks print. The smaller the dot, and more warm the carbon, probably due to the ratio of perimeter bleed and transparency versus interior dot opaqueness and neutrality. At any rate, I decided to test what I call "Eboni LK" (an Eboni dilution equal to the standard LK density) in the 2200 and 1800. With the Eboni LK, the 2200 prints with a maximum Lab B=2.4 on Premier Art Smooth BW, and the 1800 prints with a Lab B=3 on this paper, which has a maximum Lab B=1 with the 7500. So, while the Eboni LK might be useful in a K2 100% carbon solution, my initial tests indicate it will not deliver results equal to the older printers. Let's hear it for the old non-chipped, easy-refill workhorses! Paul www.PaulRoark.com
