Re: Ilford Gold Fibre, First Impressions

2007-12-05 by Louis Dina

Phil,

I just finished creating color profile and a set of toned and neutral
QTR profiles for this paper (4000 and MISPro color inks for all).

I printed a 16x20 color image and framed it two days ago and it is
awesome. Fantastic Dmax, exceptional color gamut, sharp with lots of
pop, nice surface sheen, nice stiff feel, and my framed photo looks
almost 3D. I've only done a few prints on it so far, but I am
impressed. I haven't done enough yet to make a conclusive
determination, but so far, so good.

Many luster or semi matte papers need to be hard mounted to a backing
board, otherwise they take on a wavy appearance when framed. My
first mounting job was done with acid free tape just along the top
(standard hinge) and I don't see any waviness, so this is another
plus. Hope they all hang that well. I haven't seen any wheel marks
yet, so that's good. Definitely one of the nicest papers I have
used.

I haven't noticed any downsides so far. Hope I don't.

Lou
